After reaching last year's final and losing Simona Halep is trying to improve this year. Improving would mean winning it and her step in doing was a Jennifer Brady. She didn't play much before the Australian Open but she was confident that wouldn't be a factor.
The first set was a tricky one for Halep. She lost her serve twice in the set even giving Brady an opportunity to serve for the set. However each time she battled back and prove to be the more composed one winning the first set 7-6(5). Her serve was good throughout the set but she made a lot of unforced errors giving Brady a chance.
In the second set, she was much more efficient. She broke her opponents set early to go up 2-0. After that Brady started playing better but that only lasted for a game which she won. Once again Halep took control of the match and raised her game to a level impossible to match for the American. In the end, the Romanian won the second set in dominant fashion 6-1.
It was a very good showing for Simona who was especially dominant on her own sere. She hit 78 % of her 1st serves without making a double fault and even hitting two aces. It's a good start for in her quest to win her 3rd Grand Slam title.
