Daniil Medvedev, a player who many consider the 4th in line to win the Australian Open had a tough match against electric American Tiafoe but he managed to prevail
It's was an interesting draw for Medvedev as he got a tougher opponent than a 4 seeded player usually does. Tiafoe who isn't the best placed on the rankings right now is arguably a top 40 world player. Despite that, he
remained optimistic.
The first went into Medvedev favour 6-2 as the Russian was pretty good on his own serve while breaking his opponent once which was enough. In the 2nd set, we saw a bigger battle as both players were winning their own serve until game 9 when Tiafoe raised the bar and broke his opponent. He went on to win his service gaming claiming the 2nd set for himself.
The 3rd set was a copy of the 1st set. Both players were winning their own games but Medvedev was a bit better. He ultimately broke his opponents serve once more to win it 6-4. The last set was an interesting one as Medvedev completely took over. The Russian was catching everything not allowing Tiafoe any breathing room. He was dominant and won the set 6-3.
It was a good start for the Russian against a tough opponent and he will now look ahead to the next challenger.
