Iga Swiatek won her 4th career grand slam trophy in Paris on Saturday and it was a great conclusion for the Polish superstar who called for more unity in the sport after.
Swiatek is a very interesting player as she kind of disconnects from the world during the duration of an event. Everything is focused solely on tennis and that commitment might be the reason why she's won 4 grand slams in her career already. Due to that disconnect, Swiatke missed some of the things that happened during the event but she generally catches up after it passes:
"I know that it may be weird, because I should, you know,
be aware of what's going on, but it's like the best way for me to really
be focused and do my job properly. After the tournaments, as you said, I
always take time to kind of catch up with everything that was going on."
Swiatek calls for more unified support for Ukraine
She missed most of the drama at this year's event but used the chance to call for more unity in the sport, especially towards the Ukrainian cause which she is passionate about:
"Well, the only thing I can kind of say is just to like
repeat myself and my views on how we as tennis community, I don't know,
should be kind of together in doing like every effort to make the
Russian aggression stop. My support goes to all the Ukrainians, because I know
that their situation isn't easy. Like if I would be in their shoes, I
don't know if I would be able to compete, honestly. So I really, really
respect them, and I want to kind of keep my focus on doing what's gonna
be right for them."
It likely won't come but Swiatek always stood by what she believed in.
