Tatjana Maria has taken her place in a maiden Grand Slam semi-final continuing her fairytale story at
Wimbledon by seeing off compatriot, Jule Niemeier herself a surprise package at SW19.
With only Simona Halep remaining who is a former champion and Ons Jabeur who could await in the semi-finals as a top five seed, more history could be made by the German who won through in a terrific 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win.
After dropping the opening set which saw Niemeier really bring her top game to the court with 15 winners, Maria finally grew into the game breezing through the second sealing it at the first opportunity to send it all the way.
But to begin the final set, Maria had a task of coming from behind with Niemeier going 4-2 up and refinding her game only for Maria to battle and level up at 5-5 to set up a thrilling conclusion.
Surviving a break point, Maria turned the set completely at 6-5 before breaking herself and the resolve of her opponent 40-15 claiming it on her first match point.
