Karolina Pliskova will not play for the Czech Republic at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals citing the WTA Finals and the brutal schedule as a reason.
The Billie Jean King Cup Finals will be held in Prague but Pliskvoa will not play at the event leaving the very good Czech Team a bit weakened. She follows compatriot Petra Kvitova and many other top 15 players in declining to play. One of the main reasons for Pliskova is the WTA Finals in Mexico that come right after that event.
She said:
“I’ve played the Fed Cup several times and I’ve won the finals twice, so I know how beautiful the emotions are. But I will not be on the team this year. We agreed with Captain Pala and President Kaderka that we would leave room for other girls who also deserve to play in front of a sold-out hall and Czech fans.”
Kvitova explained her reasons with:
“The schedule for this season is very demanding. One really has to make difficult decisions from time to time, where to play and where to miss. I will try to prepare for the [WTA Finals], where I would like to go as far as possible.”
The Billie Jean King Cup Finals run from November 1st till 6th with the WTA Finals starting on November 10th.
