America’s young tennis star
Coco Gauff has received a lot of
praise from the coach of legendary Serena Williams.
The 19-year-old is one of the most highly-rated women’s singles
players in the circuit and turned pro at the age of 14.
Gauff won the Citi DC Open after beating Greece’s Maria Sakkari
in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday.
After that victory, Serena’s ex-coach Rennae Stubbs heaped
praise on the youngster and called her a very ‘special’ player in every sense.
"Huge congrats to @CocoGauff on an amazing week! This
young lady is so special in every sense of the word. She just gets it AND she
can sure play tennis! Congrats to her entire team,"
she posted.
Gauff will be hoping that this win will give her a
much-needed boost in her pursuit of her first-ever Grand Slam title.
Last year was the best one for the Atlanta-born in the
competition’s history where she qualified for the quarterfinals and eventually
lost to France’s Caroline Garcia in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
