After starting the 2019 Roland Garros as 8th seeded, Ashleigh Barty became the world no. 1 two weeks after lifting her first Grand Slam title.
The Aussie proved her great talent already back in 2013 when she finished the year as no. 12 in doubles ranking. 6 years later, Barty finished as world number 1 also in the singles rankings as she triumphed in Miami, at the
Roland Garros and WTA Finals.
She started her journey at the 2019 Roland Garros with a two-set victory over Jessica Pegula. She continued with the same performances also against Danielle Collins and Andrea Petkovic. In the 4th round, she defeated Sofia Kenin in three sets to deliver another two-set victory over Keys in the quarterfinals.
Young American Amanda Anisimova also didn't stop Barty on her journey as the Aussie set up the final against Marketa Vondrousova. In the final, it was not a difficult job for Barty as she triumphed in just an hour and 12 minutes 6-1, 6-3.
