During the second day at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Osaka, Madison Keys showed her qualities as fifth-seeded, but we also saw several surprises.

Tuesday's matches at the Toray Pan Pacific Open were kicked off by Madison Keys against Daria Kasatkina and Garbine Muguruza, who played against Su-Wei Hsieh. The fifth-seeded at the tournament managed to win 6-3 and 6-4. This cannot be said of Muguruza, who succumbed to Hsieh in three sets after her opponent showed a perfect comeback.
The winner of the Hiroshima tournament, Nao Hibino, also failed. She lost to Flink in two sets 6-4 and 7-5. On the other hand, her opponent from the Hiroshima final, Misaki Doi, was able to surprise the semi-finalist from Zhengzhou Open Kristina Mladenovic. Doi swept Mladenovic off the court in less than one hour 6-1 and 6-2.
Petra Martic, the Zhengzhou Open finalist, was also scheduled to play, but she withdrew from the tournament, and Yulia Putintseva played her match against the lucky looser Kawa. Donna Vekic was the last to advance on the second day as she managed to outplay Caroline Garcia 7-5 and 6-2.
