Petra Kvitova has become a mother for the first time right in the middle fittingly of Wimbledon where she is a two-time champion winning the title in 2011 and 2014 and having her best success on the surface.
Kvitova has given birth to a baby boy named Petr on Sunday (7 July) but announced it to the world on Monday. Congratulations to both Kvitova and her husband and longtime coach Jiri Vanek.
Prior to announcing her pregnancy, 2023 saw her win her biggest title in five years in the form of the Miami Open. But she suffered dismal form after that point in the five remaining tournament appearances of the season. She failed to win consecutive matches in all instances. She didn't play at the Australian Open and announced her pregnancy in January 2024 after speculation for some time.
World No.17 at the time, she announced the news on New Years Eve. "On the first day of 2024 I wanted to wish you a happy new year and share the exciting news that Jiri and I will be welcoming a baby into our family this summer!" Kvitova wrote alongside pictures of the two holding a baby's onesie with "Courage, Belief, Pojd" on it as well as the sonogram.
It was part of a WTA baby boom with Belinda Bencic also announcing her pregnancy in November. Whether she returns or not to the tour and joins the likes of Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber in particular recently remains to be seen.
But her first obstacle will not be returning to tennis anytime soon after such a joyous occasion. Kvitova started the year in style and during the tournament that became synonymous with the Czech ace, she has done so again.
Throughout her relationship with Vanek, she has won 13 titles including three WTA 1000 titles and reaching an Australian Open final and they have embarked on another milestone and the sweetest of all.
