It was certainly a win of finality for Coco Gauff against Lucia Bronzetti as she prevailed 6-2, 7-6(5) to reach the Last 16 at the 2024 Indian Wells Open and it was the last win as a teenager for the US Open champion as she sealed a 51 and final WTA 1000 win, a record for someone of that age category.
Next up is either Naomi Osaka or Elise Mertens and for the American, she gave a hilarious but also retrospective answer when asked what she wants for her birthday. She said she was just glad to be alive as she said that she didn't want to jinx becoming 20 and also was glad to overcome aspects of her personal life to get through to this point which she called a blessing.
“Uhm.. I don’t know. I’m just happy to be alive. That’s honestly a blessing. There’s a lot of things I dealt with in my personal life. I’m really happy to see 20. I don’t want to jinx it but hopefully I’ll see 20. Please, God. Thank you," said Gauff.
She also gave some insight into her pre-match routine. “Some people don’t know this, before I go on court I like to play loud music because I actually don’t like to hear you guys when I walk on because it makes me nervous. So I put on music. I just started the waving thing last year. Before, I would be scared to look up in the crowd. Honestly it’s a lot of people. I wasn’t expecting so many people at 11 am. Thank you guys for coming.”
