Gael Monfils has long been one of tennis' finest showmen and he showed that again during a game changing moment against Cameron Norrie on Monday night at
Indian Wells.
Monfils has played Ultimate Tennis Showdown on multiple occasions and embodied his fellow UTS star, Alexander Bublik in throwing caution to the wind and an underarm serve into the mix. The 37-year-old was points away from losing to Norrie, but produced a wicked underarm effort which bamboozled the Brit and gave the Frenchman the point.
He went on to win the tie-break narrowly 7-5 and is points away now from the match as of time of writing after taking down Hubert Hurkacz yesterday. Working with the same coach as his wife, Elina Svitolina, he will hope that this will pay dividends after her sudden career revival after returning post pregnancy. But some things never change and that is certainly the showman in Monfils.
