Emma Raducanu's next few weeks are uncertain with no tournament confirmed as of yet in the next move for the former US Open champion who has posted some new images of training at the LTA's National Tennis Centre as she keeps fit and ready for the next part of the season.
Raducanu instead of deciding to remain in Dubai and wait for a potential wildcard with Naomi Osaka for instance withdrawing which could've given her a chance returned to London and was set to do some soul searching and altering of her schedule. This after her comeback hit the breaks with a loss to Anhelina Kalinina at the Qatar Open which was a wake-up call especially with criticism that followed about her attending galas and events for brands in Dubai days before.
"I think that I need to kind of schedule my tournaments a bit better as well as just trying to get some more matches under my belt,” she said at the time. “I think that I’m just going to go home and practice and we’ll see where it goes from there.”
But the waiting game is there for Raducanu to get an
Indian Wells wildcard. Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki have both been afforded one already. There is the caveat though that she may not play in both tournaments of the Sunshine Double. If she is not given a wildcard for Indian Wells, the wait will likely go on until Miami.
IMG who are management for Raducanu run the
Miami Open and so she is likely to be given a wildcard no matter what for the second part. Tournaments in Charleston and San Luis in Mexico could be an option during the second week of the double, but Raducanu faces a dilemma which isn't helped by her status.
Being a player that tournaments clamour for instead of one on the way down and with recent success, Raducanu's management may decide against allowing her to play lower level and instead rely on the wildcards that are to come in the next few months heading into the clay court season. Sitting in London waiting for an Indian Wells call, Raducanu will likely return in the next few weeks but her schedule post that will be a continued mystery.
