Following the Australian Open, the UTR rankings reveal significant shifts compared to the WTA rankings. Paula Badosa climbs into the top five, while some top-10 players, such as Emma Navarro and Daria Kasatkina, barely manage to stay within the top 30.

Unlike the WTA rankings, which are based on tournament points, the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) focuses on evaluating a player's consistency and current form. The system operates on a 16-point scale, analysing the last 30 matches played over the past 12 months. It considers match competitiveness rather than just results, placing greater emphasis on victories against stronger opponents.

Major shifts include Osaka, Zheng, Badosa and Krejcikova

The top three spots in the UTR rankings remain unchanged from the official WTA rankings, with Aryna Sabalenka leading, followed by Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff. In fourth place is Zheng Qinwen, who was No. 1 in UTR just months ago but dropped after her early second-round exit at the Australian Open.

Spain’s Paula Badosa, a semifinalist in Melbourne, moves up to No. 5, improving on her WTA No. 10 ranking. Notably, Karolina Muchova (No. 17) and Naomi Osaka (No. 42) make surprise appearances in the UTR top 10.

Among the biggest risers is Japan’s four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka who surges to No. 10 in UTR as Muchova reach No. 9. Yulia Putintseva (WTA No. 20) also makes a significant jump to No. 13.

Other notable rankings include Emma Raducanu (WTA No. 56) at No. 17 and Belinda Bencic (WTA No. 157), who makes an impressive return to No. 29 in the UTR rankings.

Emma Navarro, ranked WTA No. 8, falls to No. 25 in UTR, while WTA No. 9 Daria Kasatkina drops to No. 26. Meanwhile, 2024 Wimbledon champion and WTA No. 10 Barbora Krejcikova barely makes the top 50.
