Victoria Mboko will play at
Internationaux de Strasbourg this next week where she is top seed having taken late entry into the tournament and there it seems she will have a new coach in tow, that being Wim Fissette.
Mboko who is already a top 10 star is seeing for even more it seems as she heads towards her second full year on the tour after reaching the third round of the French Open on debut last year.
Reported by
AlErsalpod on X, Mboko has been seen working with Iga Swiatek's former coach in Strasbourg ahead of the final French Open warm-up. More clarity has been given on the situation too with Ben Rothenberg, prominent tennis journalist saying that Fissette confirmed to him that he was working with Mboko on a trial basis.
Famously, he coached Naomi Osaka to two Grand Slams and they resumed their partnership after she returned to the tour which in itself caused controversy as he was working with Zheng Qinwen. Zheng herself went back to Pere Riba who left to coach Coco Gauff and Osaka left Fissette eventually. He went to Swiatek and Osaka went to be coached by former Swiatek coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski.
So it is all very much a huge triangle of coaching moves and now Victoria Mboko who will look to make the next step has got involved. Mboko herself was previously coached by former French No. 1 Nathalie Tauziat but their partnership seems to have ended with Tauziat taking a new role within Tennis Canada so as a result, it make sense that Mboko has turned to a new coach.
What has Fissette won as a coach?
