Emma Raducanu did the unthinkable by winning her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open and it left the teenager surprised in many ways.
All has been said and written about Emma Raducanu and her stellar success at the US Open. She arrived in New York, she smashed everyone without dropping a single set and she broke a few records. It will take time for Raducanu to absorb all that has happened in the past fortnight and an interview after her win proves just that.
The US Open as an event is worth 2000 WTA points and Raducanu won that along with 40 points earned for entering the main draw as a qualifier. That allowed her to jump 127 spots on the rankings to number 22. She was obviously aware of the implications her win would have but she had no idea how dramatic of a jump it would be. She also catapulted herself to 14 in the WTA race which gives her a very good chance of securing a spot in Guadalajara as well.
