Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva showed her two sides after
suffering a defeat in the Omnium Banque Nationale
Canadian Open.
The 28-year-old was on the losing side in the round of 32
clash against America’s
Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Following that result, Putintseva smashed her racquet but moments
later went on to hug her winning opponent.
The result will be severe below who is yet to win her first
major tournament despite turning pro back in 2009.
She has never played in a semifinal or beyond in any of the
Grand Slams in her career.
Her best outings in the major events came in French Open — in
2016 and 2018 — and the US Open — in 2020 — where she ended up losing the
quarterfinal.
In 2016, she was knocked out by the former world number one
America’s Serena Williams with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. Two years later, she exited
the competition after losing to America’s Madison Keys with a score of 7-6,
6-4.
In the US Open three years back, Putintseva lost to America’s
Jennifer Brady with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
