Coco Gauff is in tears as she becomes the first teenager to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999. It’s been a tough road, but it was all worth it. Soak it all in. You earned every minute of this. 🥹❤️
Coco Gauff won the US Open 2023 after beating Aryna Sabalenka in three sets and she could not keep her eyes dry due to all the emotions.
Not so long ago the young American won the title in Washington and a few weeks later she also won the Cincinnati Open.
After a fierce fight with Sabalenka she becomes the first teenager since Serena Williams to win the US Open.
"It means so much to me," Gauff said during the trophy presentation. "I feel like I’m a little bit in shock in this moment. That French Open loss was a heartbreak for me, but I realized God puts you through tribulations and trials, and that makes this moment even sweeter than I could imagine".
"My dad took me to this tournament, sitting right there, watching Venus and Serena compete, so it’s really incredible to be here on this stage."
Gauff will be the new number 3 of the world when the new ranking comes out on Monday. That will also be a new personal record for her because she peaked at number 4 earlier this season.
