America’s young tennis star
Coco Gauff hilariously thought
that she won the
US Open doubles match with just a score at 4-1.
The 19-year-old is one of the most highly-rated young players
in the circuit and is one of the favourites to lift the title at the fourth and
final Grand Slam of the year which is currently being played in New York.
Gauff is also participating in the doubles and mixed doubles
category in the mega-event. In the doubles category, she is partnering with Jessica
Pegula.
The duo was facing Elizabeth Mandlik and Quinn Gleason in
the first round but Gauff thought that they won the match when they were just
4-1, prompting a hilarious response from her partner as well as from the crowd sitting
in the arena.
Gauff and Pegula went on to win the match in straight sets
with a score of 6-2, 6-1 on Wednesday and they are now set to face Spain’s Cristina
Bucsa and Alexandra Panova in the second round on Friday.
In the singles category, Gauff has already secured her place
in the third round after beating Russia’s young tennis sensation Mirra Andreeva
in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
She is now set to face Belgium’s Elise Mertens in the third-round fixture on Friday as well.
