Danielle Collins is in her final year as a tennis player as the Florida native announced her shock retirement earlier this season and will bow out after 2023. But she showed what fans will miss when she does hang up the racquet in her latest Miami Open win.
Collins took down Sorana Cirstea and aside from Bernarda Pera in the opening round, she has completed her wins barely losing games no mind sets. Even in that tie, she took two 6-1 sets after losing the first. She defeated Anastasia Potapova and Elina Avanesyan before setting her sights on CIrstea.
But it was a 6-3, 6-2 win for the 30-year-old as she booked a tie with Caroline Garcia in a WTA draw which has been blown wide open with Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff falling in one night. Despite the emphatic win, it seemed like Collins was in a mood to throw shade.
Collins who is well known and can be a divisive figure as a result for showing her emotions on court and some superb facial expressions giving her the nickname DanYELL blew a kiss hilariously to the fans of Cirstea who were actively cheering against the American during the tie. In the end, it was Collins who had the last laugh on the court at least continuing her superb form and with retirement imminent showing why she will be missed.
