In a tournament of highs for
Iga Swiatek, it also reached a low in the semi-final as she was well beaten by the Russian qualifier, Anna Kalinskaya in the semi-finals of the
Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 6-4, 6-4 in favour of the recent Australian Open Quarter-Finalist. But also frustrations boiled over for the World No.1.
Swiatek who is well known for keeping her emotions in check by using a psychologist and being on top of that aspect of her game let the guard slip slightly as she smashed her racquet to the ground in frustration against Kalinskaya.
After going down a set and a break against the unheralded qualifier, Kalinskaya was between points and in the background, Swiatek was seen hurling her racquet to the floor. She was then given a warning for racquet abuse, but no point penalty. A moment she will want to forget and despite reaching the latter stages, a tournament she will now want to forget.
