Iga Swiatek will face off against Anna Kalinskaya this evening at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and an error from a broadcaster resharing a clip sent those thinking tennis is rigged into overdrive.
Sky Sports posted on their social media that Swiatek saw off Kalinskaya in straight sets in a video clip posted of her win over Qinwen Zheng in the Quarter-Finals. Swiatek saw off Sloane Stephens as well as Elina Svitolina before the Chinese ace to reach the latter stages.
Kalinskaya fought her way past qualifying as well as Jelena Ostapenko and Coco Gauff in the last few games to make it into the last four. But Sky Sports said already that Swiatek had won in straight sets. The account behind it still didn't delete it which led to it being flooded with comments saying Swiatek's run is scripted, while others found humour from it.
"Proof the establishment set up matches. I knew Iga couldn’t be this good. They handing her wins…" one user wrote. "Do you know the winning lottery numbers for this week? You can see the future, right?" another wrote. "Today's match script leaked... Good job #WTAscriptwriters," added another, while a further account also joked that Andy Murray during his ATP mockumentary parody when he said tennis is scripted was right.
