Three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek showed her full frustration during her match against Jelena Ostapenko, as the Latvian claimed a commanding 6-3, 6-1 victory to reach the Qatar Open final. The world No. 2 seemed on track for a fourth consecutive title in Doha but crashed out against ‘Penko.’

Swiatek appeared to be finding her best form this week, but she faced a tough challenge against Ostapenko, her ‘nemesis’ on Tour. The Latvian remains the player with the most dominant head-to-head record over Swiatek, now leading 5-0.

During the second set, frustration was evident from the five-time Grand Slam champion as Ostapenko led 6-3, 3-0. At that moment, Swiatek was caught on camera slamming her racket to the ground during a changeover, a scene that quickly spread across social media.

Ostapenko, noticing Swiatek’s reaction from the corner of her eye, had an immediate and spontaneous facial expression that added to the moment’s viral appeal. The Latvian maintained her dominance and sealed another convincing win, booking her place in a second WTA 1000 final—her first also being in Doha.

Ostapenko will now face American Amanda Anisimova on Saturday for the Qatar Open title. Anisimova, also in her second WTA 1000 final, is still seeking her first trophy at this level.
