America’s tennis star Sloane Stephens has opened up about the experience of visiting a nail salon with her husband.
The 30-year-old is coming on the back of a disappointing US
Open 2023 campaign where she was knocked out from the first round after losing
to Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
Despite her on-court struggles, Stephens, in a video shared
on social media, talked about how annoying it is to visit a nail salon with her
husband.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve had a bad experience,” she said. “I’ve
never gotten like a toe infection or anything like that. But I will say, I take
my husband now & it’s literally the most annoying experience of my life. He’s
ticklish & moving & squirming. It’s not relaxing. I’m like ‘stop
moving. Other people are looking.’”
Stephens is a one-time Grand Slam winner as she lifted the
US Open in 2017 after defeating fellow American Madison Keys in the final in straight
sets with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
But the Florida-born will be extremely disappointed with her
performance this year where she failed to reach the third round or beyond in
three out of the four Grand Slams.
The only time Stephens managed to play beyond the
round of 32 was in the French Open where she was knocked out in the fourth round
after losing to the current world number one Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in
straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4.
