Coco Gauff has attributed some of her success at the WTA
China Open in Beijing to the fact that she has been eating Chinese noodles every day at the tournament.
The World No. 3 has had a successful run at the tournament so far, overcoming some tough battles against Ekaterina Alexandrova, Petra Martic, and Veronika Kudermetova before storming past sixth seed
Maria Sakkari to reach the semi-final of the WTA 1000 event.
Her most recent match also saw her achieve 16 consecutive wins after she soared to victory at the US Open last month, defeating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final to claim her first-ever Grand Slam title.
Gauff jokes that noodles are giving her power
During her on-court interview after the match, Gauff was asked if she thought eating more Chinese noodles would give her more power at the tournament.
"Maybe you need to eat more Chinese noodles to give you more power?" asked the interviewer.
Gauff replied by saying that she was already eating noodles every day and that she would keep this routine in place as it appeared to be helping her win matches.
"For sure. I’ve been eating noodles every day. I don’t think anything is gonna change. Especially because I’m winning," she said with a smile.
The interviewer seemed in disbelief, responding by asking "Every day?", to which the 19-year-old replied with an enthusiastic "Yeah!".
Gauff set to face Swiatek in semi-final
The American is set to face second seed
Iga Swiatek in the semi-final of the China Open. The two players have met eight times before, with the Polish player dominating their head-to-head 7-1.
However, Gauff won their most recent clash at the Cincinnati Open in August and has only been improving since, suggesting that it could be a tight match whichever way it goes.
