Jasmine Paolini has gone from being in the final at the French Open two years ago to losing out early after being slumped out by Solana Sierra. The Argentine 21-year-old recovered superbly from going a set down to oust the Italian ace.
Paolini, a former World No.4 had started incredibly well, seeing off Dayana Yastremska 7-5, 6-3 to make a positive start to her campaign; however these hopes were dashed, and it seemed to take a real toll on her as she broke down in tears and had to leave her press conference at the French Open.
She told reporters about foot problems she had been dealing with since her participation at this year's Italian Open in Rome and left the press conference briefly in order to compose herself before returning to continue asking questions.

Struggles since Rome

“It was a tough one. I know I could play better, I could do things better, but it didn't work today. She [Sierra] played good, and I have to accept it," said Paolini.
“I've been struggling with this foot since Rome. I'm definitely not 100% and my foot is bothering me a bit, otherwise I wouldn't have made the decisions I did, even for doubles.
“I did my best, that's for sure, but it's hard to accept. It hurts, and I definitely could have played better, regardless of my foot, but it's not easy to play well like this when you also have a physical problem.”
“It's [rest] the best option right now, and I have to take my time, and unfortunately, there wasn't any time.
“I took as much time as possible to be at least a little competitive here. Obviously, I didn't do 10 days of intense training, because otherwise it would have been difficult to even recover a little. It's difficult to be positive right now, but I have to try to be."
Jasmine Paolini celebrates.
Jasmine Paolini was downed by Sierra.
From the ultimate highs of reaching two Grand Slam finals, it has been a much more difficult road since for Paolini who now has to deal with that and with the true carnage that is the tennis tour, she by her own admission doesn't have a lot of time to rest up and get better.
So in reality a match like this isn't exactly going to help her to get over it, it only exacerbates the problems for her as seen by her emotionally breaking down.
