Jelena Ostapenko is well known for letting her feelings show on the court and that was the case in her match against
Ons Jabeur in the fourth round at the
Madrid Open and had some needle with her opponent in particular at the husband of Jabeur.
Jabeur came out all guns blazing in the opening set and dished out a brutal bagel while being cheered on by husband, Karim Kamoun. But Ostapenko got to the point where she lost her temper with this. Ostapenko failed to hold serve for the fourth straight game, however she won the next game to break Jabeur. After holds of serve, Ostapenko won again and turned and screamed at her opponent's box with some words being uttered by the Latvian.
But it didn't help Ostapenko's cause as she went on to be brutally defeated 6-0, 6-4 in just 68 minutes. A ninth straight victory for Jabeur at the Madrid Open who has been unbeaten since winning the title in 2022. She didn't play last year due to injury. Jabeur also didn't hold back herself in criticising the tournament directors and the Madrid/Rome double in her post match interview in particular the treatment of WTA stars.
