Iga Swiatek on the ‘IGA Stadium’ in Montreal: “Having a stadium named after me… huge privilege. Let’s pretend that’s the story… I feel more happy when I see that it’s Iga stadium. They should do this more often” 😂
Iga Swiatek coincidentally shares a name with the IGA Stadium which is the main court at the Canadian Open in Montreal which she quipped should be the story and more tournaments should adopt it.
Swiatek enters the latest WTA 1000 tournament off the back of winning the Warsaw Open as the World No.1 was one of only a few that kept playing after Wimbledon.
Heading into the Canadian Open, she could face Karolina Pliskova or Zhu Lin, two players she knows well.
Back to the stadium and the IGA Stadium is called thus due to being a major supermarket branding deal in Quebec. She joked about the privilege of having a stadium named after her.
"Well, having the stadium named after me, huge privilege. Let's pretend that's the story. No, but it's just a nice coincidence, so yeah, it's fun. I feel more happy when I see that its 'Iga Stadium' so it's nice. They should do this more often," Swiatek said.
She was later hilariously seen posing in front of the entrance to further the story even more.
