The starting ceremony of the
Olympic Games in Tokyo happened today and it ended with
Naomi Osaka of Japan lighting the Olympic Cauldron.
The Olympic Games have started prior to the opening ceremony which is something that is unusual but there is little usual about the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The opening ceremony itself was spectacular and it ended with Naomi Osaka lighting the Olympic Cauldron.
Osaka is probably the best known Japanese athlete in the world and one of the best tennis players in the world. She will represent Japan at these Olympics hoping to secure a medal for the country in tennis. Before that, she was given one of the biggest honour an athlete can get and that is to light the Olympic flame.
The lighting symbolises the official start of the games which are now underway. Osaka herself will kick off her tennis journey tomorrow with an early match. It will start at 11:00 Tokyo time and 04:00 CET. Check out the historic moment below.
