Mum Serena Williams says of her young daughter: "Maybe I can push her into tennis by getting other kids to have a group lesson, I think that's what I'm gonna do...I really want her to play at least a little bit, because she's actually really good at it."
You're doomed to failure, Serena, if you think you can 'push' your child into tennis. So many parents have tried steering their offspring into various pastimes and sports at which they [the parents] excelled. Encourage them in a particular direction by all means, but that's all you can do. If your daughter instead shows an aptitude for chess or ice skating, Serena, then embrace it. And if the child should show an aptitude for tennis, just imagine the additional pressure she'll be under, simply because she IS your daughter. A twin-edged sword, I fear.
