Amanda Anisimova returns at Australian Open.
Amanda Anisimova was defeated by her compatriot Jessica Pegula in the Quarter-Finals of the Australian Open on Wednesday and it was evident throughout that she was struggling to cope with the emotions of the situations.
Anisimova lost out 6-2, 7-6 in favour of Pegula and was seen frustrated on court as she struggled to answer Pegula's performance. The WTA World No.6 took the match in just one hour and 37 minutes.
The first set was dominance from Pegula who broke the World No.4 twice to take a 4-1 lead early on in the piece. She closed out the set 6-2 in just over 30 minutes. Anisimova showed some resistance in the second set as both players traded breaks to close out the set forcing a tiebreak. However the tie-break was again all Pegula who reeled off seven consecutive points to reach the semi-finals.
But it was in fact Anisimova's outburst at 5-1 in the second set tie-break that caught attention as she started to fake cry to herself on court and get emotional then she also shouted at her team which was lip read as "Tell me something, just sitting there" as she failed to deal with her emotions on court.
Now Pegula moves on to face Elena Rybakina while it is the end of the road for Anisimova who was seen by many as a potential winner this fortnight.
