Naomi Osaka had a quick rebuttal when it came to her Wimbledon outfit after she was asked about her walk-ons ahead of her latest appearance at the Championships.
Osaka comes into the tournament after a pretty good week having reached the final of Bad Homburg. She had to retire against Karolina Muchova, but she comes into the tournament in a good place.
Never her best surface, Osaka has found a semblance of form on grass that she hasn't had before and of course as ever with the former World No.1, attention will also turn to the outfits and also her walk-out on court.
She will wear a Women's Dri-FIT Tennis Dress by Nike which will feature a cut to separate Kirigami from Origami. It being dri-fit means that it is made of quick drying material to help in case of the heat that the UK has experienced as of late.
The all-white dress also circumnavigates rules to look Osaka esque with 3-D flowers around the hem. She was asked though about the rule and had a response lined up to the journalists in attendance at Wimbledon.
'Oh do you think it's a fashion show' - Osaka's brilliant rebuttal
"In terms of your fashion shows and walk-ons, how does Wimbledon's dress code fit in? Does it make it more challenging or maybe makes it easier because of the color restrictions?" to which Osaka hit back mid question in a rebuttal which immediately caused said journalist to scramble.
"Ohh, do you think it's a fashion show?" she chimed in.
She then opened up further on the all-white rule and as someone who tries to produce in both an on court sense and also be fashionable, she said that it provides food for thought.
This more than being an issue for her in the grand scheme of things. "You know what's interesting is literally everyone keeps asking me that. Um, and I've never thought of the color white being a restriction. I feel like there are so many different patterns, fabrics, and textures that you can use. I've never really even thought of it as something that hinders me. But I'm happy to know you think it's a fashion show."
