Former world number one Venue Williams had fans flocking to
meet her ahead of the Indian Wells competition. There have been reports surrounding the possibility that the
43-year-old will receive the wildcard for the mega-event but it has not been
confirmed as of now.
Despite that, Williams continued to train and fans were
flocking to meet her after the practice session. It will be interesting to see how Venus will be able to
perform in the competition if she is granted the wildcard entry, especially
after a series of unimpressive performances in the recent past.
Venus is a seven-time Grand Slam winner. She won her first
major title in 2000 when she defeated Lindsay Davenport in the final in straight
sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6.
Venus’ most successful competition was also Wimbledon where
she lifted the title five times. Her last major triumph came in 2008 while
playing in London when she defeated Serena Williams in the final with a score
of 7-5, 6-4.
Venus also won an Olympic gold medal for her country in 2000
as she defeated Elena Dementieva in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
Despite all the
success, the California-born had a hard time in 2023 where she managed to play
in the main round of two Grand Slams but could not cement her place in the
second round or beyond.
