Leylah Fernandez hasn't been having too much success lately as a singles player but she's been really good in the doubles partnering Taylor Townsend.
Fernandez has been struggling to find proper singles from losing every few matches which prevents her from truly finding good form. None of that matters much for doubles tennis as she's doing really well with Towsend during this North American stretch. They played the round of 16 at Indian Wells and they followed that up with a run to the semi-finals here and a chance to go even further.
Speaking to the Tennis Channel Fernandez said:
"I think we started talking in Australia. In Australia, we started talking, and then I think once the Middle East hit, Taylor asked me if we wanted to play for Indian Wells and Miami, and of course I said yes. Why would I say no to that question?"
And added:
"But, I think it's such a great opportunity for me to learn more about doubles and also learn, like how to be playing with a lefty. So, it was so, so nice to be sharing a court with Taylor. I'm learning a lot and I'm also having a lot of fun."
