Yulia Putintseva received vociferous boos from the crowd inside the Caja Magica at the
Madrid Open and also a strange look from her compatriot
Elena Rybakina as she battered the living daylights out of her racquet after throwing away her tie against the World No.4.
Seen as a real Houdini escape act that as the commentator said a magician would be proud of, Rybakina saved two match points en route to defeat Putintseva for the first time and reached her sixth semi-final of the year. Sealing it 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, Rybakina now moves on to face Mirra Andreeva or Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals in Madrid.
But Putintseva goes home wondering what could've been and also potentially with a fine for her troubles after loudly thumping her racquet down onto the clay with some venom. Watch the video below.
