Elina Svitolina reacted to the Wimbledon decision to allow Russian and Belarussian players to compete and she said that she will respect the decision.
Svitolina made her return to tennis at the Charleston Open playing almost for three hours but ultimately losing to Yulia Putintseva. She won the first set but lost the next two in a very positive return to tennis. Speaking after the match, Svitolina touched upon many topics including the Wimbledon decision which she will respect:
"Well, it's their decision. We have to respect the decision. So yeah, now it's time to get back on the court and kick some a** [laughs]."
She also touched upon making her way back to Ukraine and visiting her grandmother in the country:
"It was a tough trip for me but at the same time, I was the happiest person to see my grandmother and the other half of my family as well. It's really tough to see my homeland in a state of alert constantly. I went to some cities, completely destroyed by missiles. It was a heartbreaking moment for me. That's why I tried my best to raise money for Ukrainian people and for rebuilding Ukraine."
