"We're just like everyone else": Pegula aims to show normal side to life as a tennis player through social media

World No.3 Jessica Pegula is of the opinion that professional athletes face similar hardships to everyone else, and hopes to enlighten fans on this belief through social media.

The top-ranked American is currently competing at the Credit One Charleston Open, and spoke about the type of content she posts on social media after her opening round victory.

"I think when I'm just at that moment, I'm like, 'this is really sad, this is really hard, I can't realize this is what I'm doing right now,'" said Pegula. "But I think it just shows the different side, that even though we're professional athletes, we work very hard, very professional."

The Miami doubles champion believes the life of an athlete is not that different from that of a normal person, as both endure hardships during their respective journeys.

"We're just like everyone else," Pegula added. "We hit those moments where it looks crazy cool, playing in stadiums and all that stuff but like meanwhile, you know, it's tough."
