Former world number one Martina Navratilova took a dig at authorities
for having no off-season for the players in the circuit. There have been constant voices raised about having a lack of
breaks for players who are playing at the highest level.
Navratilova, while responding to a post on social media
platform X — previously known as Twitter — took a dig at authorities for having
no break for the players. "Exactly- what off-season??? Merry Merry to all
the players!!!,” she wrote.
Navratilova is often regarded as one of the greatest players
in the history of tennis in the women’s singles category in the Open era,
having won as many as 18 Grand Slam titles in her illustrious career.
The 67-year-old’s most successful competition was Wimbledon
where she lifted the title nine times — 1978, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985,
1986, 1987 and 1990.
Her first major title came in London in 1978 when she defeated
America’s Chris Evert in the final with a score of 2–6, 6–4, 7–5. Her last major
title was also Wimbledon in 1990 when she defeated Zina Garrison in straight
sets with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Navratilova further went on to win 31 doubles Grand Slam
titles and 10 major titles in the mixed doubles category.
