Austrian tennis star
Dominic Thiem will face a tough route
in qualifying for the Brisbane International event.
The competition will kickstart tennis season for many
players in the men’s singles category. Thiem will face tough competition for
the qualifying phase as he will go up against the likes of Italy’s Matteo
Berrettini and Argentina’s Diego Schwarrtzman.
Thiem managed to finally regain full fitness in 2023 after a
lengthy injury layoff which disrupted his progress on the court. However, his
return to professional tennis did not go as per the plan as he struggled
throughout the year, especially in big events.
Thiem played in the main round of all four Grand Slams
in 2023 but failed to qualify for the third round or beyond in any mega-events. His most impressive came in the US Open where he was knocked out after
having to retire in the second round while facing America’s Ben Shelton.
Thiem will be hoping to have a much better outing in 2024
compared to how it was last year. The 30-year-old is a one-time Grand Slam
winner as he lifted the US Open in 2020 after beating Germany’s Alexander
Zverev in the final with a score of 2–6, 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 7–6(8–6).
