Emma Raducanu will get to play a Romanian in the 2nd round of the Transylvania Open as the Brit is set to face Ana Bogdan.
Raducanu had a very tough match in round 1 against Polona Hercog but the Brit was able to keep herself in the match until she was able to break down the defense of the Slovenian. Against Bogdan, it will be another tough match as the Romanian enjoys hitting the ball hard and rarely ever takes her foot off the gas. Speaking on the matchup the 106-ranked Bogdan revealed that Raducanu is an inspiration to her:
“Of, course, even to me [what she did was inspirational]. I said to myself that everything is possible, everything is achievable if you work hard and if you believe, if you are positive, you can do it."
Bogdan further said:
“It’s very important to have the right attitude, this is what I admired when I watched her: the focus, her shots, and the way she behaved. For me she was an inspiration, I think for many girls out there too. She is a great athlete and a great champion, I’m looking forward to the match.”
Asked what gave her the boost to go all the way Bogdan said:
“I think she won thanks to her attitude, the way she behaved the whole tournament. That smile and that innocence on her face. I think that was the key. She always kept a positive attitude no matter the score, she was there, but positively. That helped her a lot.”
While their Cluj-Napoca match will be their first one, Bogdan and Raducanu have spoken before with the Romanian revealing:
“We were talking about Formula 1, we are both fans of F1 and Daniel Ricciardo!"
