Williams defeats McHale, Gauff stunned by Siegemund

Thursday in Auckland was kicked-off by the second-round match between Coco Gauff and Laura Siegemund. The young American had a very good start to the match when she has won the first set 7-5, but then she did not manage to maintain the same level of the game.

In the second set, Gauff has won only 33% of points after her first service and that was one of the main reasons why she lost the set 6-2. The third set was not ideal again and so Siegemund advanced after winning it 6-3.

Serena Williams also lost the first set of the match against Christina McHale. However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion did not hesitate later on and turned the match when she won 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the quarterfinals at the ASB Classic she will meet Siegemund.

Also, the fourth seeded Julia Goerges played a second-round match today. In a 77 minute match, she has defeated Julia Teichmann 6-3, 6-2. In the next round, she will meet the winner of the match between Caroline Wozniacki and Lauren Davis which is yet to be played.
