"Wimbledon was the start of everything for me" - Gauff reflects following another commanding victory on Centre court

In another superb performance, Coco Gauff made quick work of her opponent to reach the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.

The 18-year old secured a 6-2 6-3 victory over Romania's Mihaela Buzarnescu, improving her career record at the All England Club to eight wins against just two losses. After progressing to the recent Roland-Garros final, the American has claimed 26 match wins in the 12 Grand Slams she’s contested.

"I wasn't nervous walking on the court," Gauff said after the match. "This is the first time I walked on Centre Court and wasn't nervous."

Gauff came into the limelight following a straight sets victory over five-time champion Venus Williams in the first round of the 2019 Wimbledon champions, at just 15 years of age. Now sitting at a career-high ranking of World No.12, the Atlanta native is ready to face all challenges that may come her way.

"I know that compared to three years ago there’s definitely a lot more people expecting me to be win but, you know, I think that 15-year-old me would still be proud that I’m still playing on Centre Court," said the French Open runner-up.

“Wimbledon was the start of everything for me so it’s always special and I think that playing on this court is one of (my) greatest privileges.”

Gauff will face compatriot Amanda Anisimova for a spot in the round of 16, In her three appearances at Wimbledon, Gauff has yet to lose before the fourth round. Anisimova, seeded No.20 is into her first third round of The Championships after a 2-6 6-3 6-4 victory over countrywoman Lauren Davis.
