Coco Gauff
could potentially extend her alliance with Brad Gilbert following her success
at the Mubadala Citi
DC Open.
The
19-year-old tennis player was seen in Washington working with the former coach
of Andre Agassi and Andy Murray, Brad Gilbert. As the American stated during
the DC Open this week, she began a partnership with Gilbert, although the
duration was not specified.
"It's
something that I'm literally just starting. And, you know, I'm really open to
learning from the game and learning from people and getting different
perspectives, so I think that it will help me,”
“You know, my
team I think have done a good job communicating amongst themselves before they
bring anything to me. So I really feel we're all on one page and one
accord."
After her
victory in the semifinals against Samsonova, Coco Gauff talked about the
possibility of continuing with the coach due to the positive feelings and good
results from the week:
“I mean, we
were just trying it this week, but obviously, I think, with the way it's been
going, we are going to continue. You know, with anyone, you don't want to say,
Let's plan for a long time. I really only had one conversation with him in
person, and that was at Wimbledon,” Gauff said
“Originally
we just, you know, said, Let's see how this week goes, you know, how everything
goes. I'm thinking that it's pretty obvious the differences that he and Pere
have made in the short amount of time, and I like the way the team dynamic,
everyone is getting along, so that's the most important part,” world No. 7
added.
Gauff
competed in the DC Open final on Sunday, winning 6-2, 6-3 against Greek player
Maria Sakkari. The former French Open finalist was superior to her rival and
secured the fourth title of her career, as well as her first WTA 500 title,
starting the hardcourt swing in a perfect way.
