The 2023 San Diego Open Entry List is confirmed in the first tournament post US Open on the WTA calendar which takes place between September 11 - September 16, 2023 in California.
Also known this year as the Cymbiotika San Diego Open for sponsorship purposes, it was famed previously for having a surfboard instead of a trophy with Iga Swiatek being the defending champion last year in a superb post final photo holding the surfboard.
But who will battle it out for one of the most unique trophies on the WTA Tour? Given it is post US Open and it is now a new date compared to last year, Swiatek has decided not to defend her title.
Also the return to Japan and a WTA 1000 take place in Guadalajara the week of and week after respectively, but still despite that date change, there are still some big names signed up.
As well as Madison Keys, Veronika Kudermetova, Victoria Azarenka, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Jelena Ostapenko, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Donna Vekic, Magda Linette, Karolina Pliskova, Anastasia Potapova, Anhelina Kalinina and Elise Mertens.
Albeit for a WTA 500, a stacked field regardless with the 17 players receiving direct entry. There are also scope for two more top twenty players through wildcards, two further wildcards and one special exempt to ascertain a 32 player field.

A new date and not an ideal date the week after the #USOpen for the San Diego event but it still gets a great field even if Swiatek won't be back with her new surfboard to defend her title
