The main
draw of the 2024
Hobart International Open, which will take place from January
8 to 13, has been revealed. The WTA 250 event will feature the 2017 US Open
champion Sloane Stephens, the world No. 29
Elise Mertens, and No. 32 Emma
Navarro.
The WTA 250
tournament is played simultaneously with the WTA 500 Adelaide International 2,
just a week before the Australian Open. Consequently, there aren't many
incentives for the players to participate in the tournament. Nevertheless, the
event always boasts a strong field, and this year is no exception.
The 2023
finalist Elisabetta Cocciaretto will be part of the draw, although
unfortunately, the current champion Lauren Davis (No. 67) will not participate
in the event due to an injury, as announced by the organization.
"Whilst
we’re excited to announce our full field today, unfortunately Lauren Davis has
had to make the tough decision to withdraw due to injury. We wish her a really
good recovery and hope to see her back for our 30th Hobart International in
2025."
In total,
there are 14 players within the top 50 who will compete in one of the first
tournaments of the year. Other seeded players include the Czechs Marie Bouzkova
(third) and Linda Noskova (sixth), Chinese representatives Xinyu Wang (fourth)
and Lin Zhu (fifth), as well as Martina Trevisan (seventh) and Varvara Gracheva
(eighth). Here is the entry list with the players who will be competing in the
