The WTA Rankings have been updated for the first time since the start of the French Open and provide a real indicator ahead of the grass court season which starts this week. Aryna Sabalenka for the first time has been closed in on, while Iga Swiatek is out of the top five.
Sabalenka especially due to the demise of Iga Swiatek looked somewhat untouchable and also if she was to face any threat, it would be from Jessica Pegula.
But it has transpired differently with Gauff the one to bring the trouble to the top spot. She is now at 8,083 points to 11,533 of Sabalenka. Still a long way to climb, but she could close up ahead of Wimbledon.
Also Sabalenka unlike Gauff this year has the US Open to defend. Pegula also has the final to defend so not only could we have a closing in at the top but we could also see a bit of a gap emerge. Jasmine Paolini also miraculously has managed to keep hold of World No.4 despite not retaining her ranking points for reaching the final.

Swiatek drops again

She will have likely another chunk come off though in event of not retaining her Wimbledon final. Zheng Qinwen is up two spots this week to World No.5 while Mirra Andreeva is still World No.6. But Iga Swiatek has dropped again.
Swiatek after losing to Sabalenka in the semi-finals is now World No.7. It is the first time since February 2022 that she is out of the top five. A full circle rise and fall from being WTA's premium player.

Amanda Anisimova continues to rise.
Career high wise, Amanda Anisimova continues to rise. She is up to World No.15, her best. She reached the fourth round in Paris. Ashlyn Krueger is up to World No.33 too as the glut of American talent continues to bear fruit.
Lois Boisson though after her amazing run to the semi-finals is up to World No.65 after being World No.361 at the start of the tournament. A near 300 rank rise, truly astonishing.
Victoria Mboko has also impressed as of late too and is up to World No.91. Further ahead, Maya Joint and Sonay Kartal continue to rise. The Brit is into the top 50, Joint sits on the cusp of doing so.
