It has been a rollercoaster 2021 Miami Open for many players but in the end, it was Barty who won it retaining her number one spot in the process.

Ashleigh Barty came into this event with the possibility of losing her number one ranking to Naomi Osaka and after her shaky start, it seemed destined for Osaka to take it over right where she grew up. But it was the world number one who played the most consistent tennis in the week culminating with another Miami Open trophy.

In the final, she faced a resurgent Bianca Andreescu who could not perform her best due to an injury but even so the run to the final allowed the Canadian to climb three spots reaching number 6. Karolina Pliskova was a big loser as she dropped 3 spots to number nine while Sabalenka climbed up to number 7.

Strong showings from Sevastova and Sorribes Toromo enable each jump of ten spots on today's rankings with Sorribes Tormo making her top 50 debuts at 48. In the back end of the top 10, we have Nina Stojanovic who moved up 10 spots after a solid run with Venus Williams dropping even further now being ranked as number 90.
