Dayana Yastremska will face Shuai Zhang in the
Lyon Open final as the Chinese player defeated Caroline Garcia while the Ukrainian downed Cirstea.
It was an eventful semifinal day Lyon as we know which two players will place in the final. The first match of the day featured native Caroline Garcia against Shuai Zhang and the French player was disappointed with her level after playing a rather strong event up until that point. Zhang had a pretty easy job against Garcia taking her down in two sets.
The final score was 6-2 7-5 and she moves to the final where she will face Dayana Yastremska who proved better in the 2nd semifinal. Her opponent was Sorana Cirstea who is playing a very solid year so far and her level at this event was rather good as well. She did have some injury concerns in this match that resulted in a MTO but she continued the match and fought very hard.
It was a very close first set but Yastremska was ultimately able to win the opening set with 7-5. Cirstea fought back in the 2nd set playing even better tennis and the traditional lapse of focus by Yastremska allowed the Romanian to win the set with 6-4. In the 3rd set, we saw a much improved Yastremska who came out inspired.
The crowd was behind her today once more after backing her the entire week and it helped her. She bulldozed her opponent in the 2nd set with some stellar play winning the set with 6-4.
