'You have to wait for your opportunity' - Muguruza on 2nd round victory

Garbine Muguruza advanced to the 3rd round of the Miami Open following a straight-sets victory over Wang Xinyu.

The victory was an impressive display from Muguruza who is enjoying a stellar 2021 season. The victory extended Muguruza's winning streak to 7 and her overall 2021 record to 19-4. The Spaniard dominated from the baseline with her strong baseline play which allowed her to win the match 6-4 6-1.

After the match Muguruza was impressed by the 19-year olds display saying:

"When you play somebody that plays so aggressive, it's hard to do much."

And at times it really looked like Wang was actually dictating the tempo of play with her aggressive style of play. The first set was especially impressive from the Chinese player who will certainly have a bright future.

Regarding the gameplan during the match Muguruza simply said:

"You have to wait for your opportunity. She played some incredible points. She also gave me some free points, so that helped me out to stay on the score."

And those free points were noticeable especially in the 2nd set when Wang faltered in key moments giving Muguruza the momentum she needed to close out the match fast. She will take on Kalinskaya in the 3rd round with the Russian playing her best tennis lately.
