America’s young tennis star
Coco Gauff has revealed that she
received the ‘coolest’ gift after winning the
US Open.
The 19-year-old is often regarded as the most highly-rated player
in the women’s singles category currently playing in the circuit.
Gauff was recently quoted in a report where she stated how
she received the coolest gift from Hollywood star Zendaya after her maiden
Grand Slam triumph.
“I didn’t really do anything that cool after winning the US
Open, to be honest,” she said. “But the messages you get from celebrities are
crazy. The coolest thing that happened to me was Zendaya sent me flowers to my
house.
“It was like a huge bouquet of flowers. My brother & I
struggled to lift it up on the table. I think it weighed at least 50 pounds. It
was so heavy. I think that was the coolest thing.”
Gauff defeated the current world number one Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka
in the final of the US Open with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The Atlanta-born is currently taking part in the
WTA Finals
in the Mexican city of Cancun.
She won comprehensively in her opening fixture of the competition
against Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur with a score of 6-0, 6-2.
Gauff is now set to face off the current world number two Poland’s
Iga Swiatek on Wednesday.
