The 2021 ATP and WTA Finals will feature an only- European field in both events which shows the domination of Europe in tennis.
Tennis has a longstanding tradition in Europe and it's quite a popular sport. Most tennis players come from that continent and it's not really a surprise that it dominates in the world of tennis. Just recently Team Europe dominated Team World at the Laver Cup winning the event for a 4th consecutive time. Now the 2021 editions of the ATP Finals and WTA Finals confirm just that. All 16 players participating are from Europe.
In the men’s field, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Diego Schwartzman were
the closest out of the ‘Rest of the World’ players to qualify for the
prestigious event. On the other hand, world number one Ash Barty
would have qualified for Guadalajara before her decision to end her 2021
campaign, whilst talented Tunisian Ons Jabeur missed out by the
narrowest of margins to Anett Kontaveit.
In another impressive statistic, Poland and Greece are the only two
nations to have representatives in both the men’s and the women’s games
at the end-of-year finals. Poland will be represented by Hubert
Hurkacz and 2020 Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek, whilst Greece will
be supporting world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas and the in-form
Maria Sakkari.
